Despite remaining rather under-the-radar during quarantine, deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) is bracing his fans for something entirely new and different. The Canadian dance music superstar and multi-hyphenate recently took to Instagram to reveal a cryptic announcement of something he’s working on in VR. It’s high time Zimmerman touched down in the world of VR considering that’s the direction the music industry has been moving lately. If nothing else, it’s overdue seeing as how savvy the producer is in the video gaming and technical design worlds.
The VR project looks to be a collaboration with Unreal Engine, in partnership with Upsurge Studios and Unreal Engine. No more details have been revealed, however, leaving fans scratching their heads as to whether the project will be an event in VR, a video game, or even a virtual Cube set. Dedmau5 asks, “why not both?” Zimmerman also shared on Reddit just days ago, “miss cubve3 shows? me too. codename Oberhasli cometh.” He then shared a VR rendering of what is believed to be the forthcoming project.
In typical cryptic fashion, the teaser closes with a vaguely worded message that reads, “Codename #Oberhasli.” An Oberhasli is a breed of dairy goat, which explains deadmau5’s caption. However, it does nothing to clarify the details surrounding the forthcoming project. Stay tuned for more news surrounding the
