Disclosure’s third studio album ‘ENERGY’ has officially landed with a cast of guest stars

When Disclosure released their breakthrough 2013 debut, Settle, brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence made dance music history. Along with the UK duo’s slower, more R&B-influenced follow-up sophomore effort, Caracal, now the Lawrence brothers unleash their third studio album, ENERGY, after years of anticipation and build up. ENERGY marks their first album in five years and the brothers’ shortest one yet.

ENERGY boasts a laundry list of guest stars, whose combined talents help to make these 11 razor-sharp dancefloor anthems into all-embracing global pop. Worked on all throughout 2020, these tracks are custom-built for large festival crowds, late nights in Metropolitan mega-clubs, and early morning industrial sweatboxes.

“Milkshake” star Kelis make her foray into dance music on “Watch Your Step,” a breakbeat number that morphs into Disclosure’s signature house sound design. Los Angeles producer Channel Tres brings his talents to “Lavender.” Common adds some new-age funk with his jam of bongos and drippy synths on “Reverie.”

On ENERGY, Disclosure refines their radio-friendly take on house and UK garage further, which is what made them worldwide icons from right out of the gate. At the same time, the LP allows plenty of room for Disclosure to expand into newer territories.

One of the more forward-thinking developments on their third full-length is the increased visibility of artists and singers from Afro-pop traditions. “C’est Ne Pas” showcases the Cameroonian singer Blick Bassy, “Douha (Mali Mali)” brings back past collaborator and Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, who worked with the Lawrence brothers on their 201 track, “Ultimatum.” The track was released prior to the full LP but is lauded for how Diawara sings in Bambara as an ode to both her homeland and the African diaspora.

Disclosure has also released their 2021 club tour schedule, which opens January 15 in Switzerland and ends March 13 in London.
