Rising dubstep artist Level Up unleashes her ‘Scared of the Dark’ EP on GRVDNCR
Sonya Broner, also known as Level Up, has just unleashed her highly-anticipated Scared of The Dark EP. Released on the dubstep record label GRVDNCR, the three-track EP should come with a warning for its heavy and unrelenting sound. Eerily melodic and gritty to its core, the Scared of The Dark EP will keep listeners on edge with its playful melody, mysterious vocal samples, and hard-hitting bass. Consisting of three tracks, “Closet Crawlers,” “Glass Mask” and the title track, the EP a thrilling barrage of dubstep production.
Discussing the new release, Level Up says, “I’ve always had a deep appreciation for female super villains and admired their balance between power, fear and beauty. I wanted my EP to represent those same qualities and created these tracks with that in mind. Since I’ve had more time at home, I’ve been watching a ton of movies and found the perfect opportunity to bring Scared Of The Dark to life. I had a lot of fun playing around with writing eerie intros followed by super heavy drops and having the chance to bring my inspiration to life through my music.”
Level Up was drawn to dubstep from the moment she first heard it, citing Rusko, Caspa, and Skream as influences during the creation of her style. She began as a scratch battle DJ, veered into electronic production and DJing, and has since toured nationally with Subtronics. She has also graced the stages of festivals such as Lost Lands, Electric Forest, High Caliber, and more.
Level Up is an artist to watch. If you need any evidence, just plug in and turn on her Scared of The Dark EP up to full volume.
