For avid festival-goers, especially those residing in Austin, it is hard to imagine a year with the annual Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival. The annual event has been going on since 2002, growing to massive proportions over its tenure. Despite COVID-19 all but killing its chances of a 2020 edition, a virtual ACL Fest still seemed likely—especially given how it’s parent company, C3 Presents, produced a virtual edition of Lollapalooza, ACL’s sister festival in downtown Chicago.
Now C3 has officially confirmed a virtual edition of ACL during a HAAM Day livestream event benefiting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. Emmett Beliveau of C3 stated that the festival’s producers “are working on a very special virtual festival weekend for all of you.”
“Since 2002, we haven’t let rain, heat, cold, dust or mud stop us from gathering for a weekend of live music in Zilker Park. This year, the safest place to be is at home,” said the ACL representative in a statement. Details regarding dates and lineup are still to come, but Beliveau instructed fans to head to the festival’s website “for the very latest.”
