Tame Impala has been delivering quite the televised performances throughout quarantine. Seeing as how their later LP, The Slow Rush, landed in just February, a world tour was to follow so these seemed like the best alternative. After their first post-COVID-19 shutdown performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kevin Parker’s riveting first quarantine performance on The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert in May, and a Tiny Desk Concert debut in September, Tame Impala is back at it.
Most recently, the psychedelic infused new-wave rock band blessed fans with yet another amazing social-distanced performance for FIFA 2021’s October 9 release. The set features what Kevin Parker, the frontman and lead songwriter for the band, refers to as the ‘Tame Impala Sound System.” During the experience, the three-piece performed two of their hits, “Elephant” from 2012’s Lonerism and “Is It True” off The Slow Rush, which was also given a glorious remix by Four Tet.
FIFA’s massive two-part 2021 soundtrack followed shortly after and it features a hugely talented roster of artists, including Flume, Toro Y Moi, Louis The Child, Glass Animals, ALISON WONDERLAND, Dupa Lipa, and Disclosure. It is a breath of fresh air to see synth-heavy psychedelic alternative electronic music being showcased on a platform as a large as the FIFA player base.
Following Tame Impala’s performance, Parker also mentioned that The Slow Rush North American Tour will be rescheduled to December 2021. For information regarding new show and tour dates, visit Tame Impala’s tour website.
