Subtronics has delivered yet another heavyweight EP, dubbed String Theory, on his label, Cyclops Recordings. The Philadelphia native, known to close friends as Jesse Kardon, continues to make a name for himself with his rule-breaking production style and a massive range of sounds. Kardon’s seven-track EP sees him adding another weapon to his arsenal for an already impressive catalogue, including collaborations with hotly-tipped producers Wooli and Kompany.
The String Theory EP begins boldly with “Nitrous Mafia,” which is laced with dizzying builds that’ll set dubstep fans up for its snarling vocal samples, shuddering drops, and jagged rhythms. The next track, “Clockwork,” plays with a playful melody, hard-charging beats, and West World samples. The Wooli-assisted “Melt Ur Brain” follows with a hypnotic refrain over crashing snares and stabbing synths.
Kompany joins Subtronics on the following track, “Wicked Witch,” picking up the pace with a flurry of drums and funky, robotic drops. Rounding out the project, listeners are pummeled with three solo tracks from Subtronics, including the relentless “Broken Code,” epic sci-fi banger “String Theory,” and a hip-hop-esque, downtempo gem, “Professor Chaos.” The String Theory EP leaves nothing off the table, as all bases are covered.
Says Subtronics about the EP:
I’m so thrilled to finally share my String Theory EP with everyone. It is a direct reflection of the wide range of emotions I have been experiencing through the pandemic. I wanted to encapsulate them in my music which resulted in a unique vibe that is my most honest form. Through this process, I stayed true to myself and the sounds that made me happiest, a huge priority of mine always.”
Coming off a breakout 2019 into 2020, Subtronics reached new heights on a sold-out, nationwide tour and notable releases alongside GRiZ, Zeds Dead, NGHTMRE, and more. The new EP is just one more nail in the coffin for Kardon’s massively growing fanbase and not one they’ll soon forget.
