Zeds Dead to drop unreleased tracks from 2008-2009 in new mixtape series
Celebrated dubstep duo from Toronto, Zeds Dead, have lit fans’ “eyes on fire” with their announcement of THE LOST TAPES, VOL. 1, a 10-track project of old unreleased material. According to DC and Hooks, it’s a “collection of old school dubs and misplaced IDs that have never been released until now.” Revisiting forgotten cuts from the rudimentary years of old-school dub, the throwback record marks the first installment in a brand new mixtape series, kicking off this Friday, December 4. As detailed in the Twitter thread, the first volume will focus on the years of 2008-2009, “with future volumes to cover other time periods.”
Zeds Dead is among a class of early adopters of the genre, alongside the likes of Rusko, Caspa, Excision, and more. Just one year before Skrillex landed EDM in the commercial spotlight and single-handedly became the face of dubstep with his Grammy-winning Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites, Zeds Dead shook the community with their wub-ridden remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes On Fire.” The Candian duo has since expanded their music into adjacent genres of electronic, like melodic bass and house, and pumped out collaborations with Subtronics, Ganja White Night, REZZ, and many more via their We Are Deadbeats releases.
THE LOST TAPES VOL. 1 will be available to stream this Friday, December 4 via SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and YouTube.
