Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’s Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

When he’s not busy being one-third of LAB GROUP with CharlestheFirst and Supertask, Santa Barbara-based producer potions is constantly experimenting with a multitude of tempos and styles. The Madison House signee, whose given name is Hunter Braymer, constantly walks the line between experimental psychedelia and a danceable, narrative experience. Nowhere is that stylistic balance more obvious than in his recently released 25-minute mixtape, which is filled with unreleased and unfinished music he’s been building up. Named Incomplete Incantations & Formulae, potions crafts the new listening experience around his subdued style of bass that borders between chill-out and hip-hop.

Emphasizing unique rhythmic and melodic cadences, in cohesion with a dedicated exploration of distortion and atonality, potions’ mixtape seeks to provide a full spectrum audio experience derived from a broad range of influences. Juxtaposition is the name of the game on the mix. There’s cheeky hip-hop sampling over glitched-out measures, sultry melodic bass against distorted synth lines, and organic tones in a sea of synthesized electronic beats.
