Rising Bass Spotlight: Space Wizard reveals soul-shuddering heavy bass tune, ‘The Maze Guardian’
Here at Conscious Electronic, we love all things bass — breakbeat, downtempo, left-field, experimental, dubstep in all its forms, you name it. As the underground bass movement has begun its full ascendancy in the US, we’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of up-and-coming bass artists the country over. As such, CE’s Rising Bass Spotlight seeks to shine a light onto the rising producers who’re honing their craft, galvanizing their movements, and attuning eyes, ears, heads, and bodies into all things low end.
Space Wizard is one producer in the rising bass scene that brings as much hype to the decks as he does substance to each and every one of his releases. While he’s certainly a producer whose long belonged on CE‘s Rising Bass Spotlight, it’s a wonder why it’s taken him this long to make an appearance on our coveted list, which includes the likes of Ravenscoon, Wreckno, kLL sMTH, UHNK, and many, many more.
As part of the original SpicyBois squad, Space Wizard has always found ways to rise in the ranks through his amorphous tempos and his heavy, left-field sound. Releasing tracks through Wakaan, Subsidia, and a 40oz Collective, he is constantly standing out amongst his peers in the underground bass arena.
After releasing a career-defining EP on Subtronics‘ newly-minted imprint, Cyclops Recordings, the Texas-based underground bass producer follows up The Marble Room with a soul-shuddering track that cuts deep into the soul. The three-minute cut is called “The Maze Guardian” and it certainly lives up to its name.
“Maze Guardian was never supposed to be a full song but the idea felt so good i just had to finish it”– Space Wizard
Riddled with heavy build-ups, soul-crushing bass, and colossal drops centered around the vocal sample that begs the question, “how do you come back from this?,” the answer is a simple one that Space Wizard answers for listeners on the track: “You don’t.” The track tells the legendary tale of “The Maze Guardian,” a figure who has been alive since the creation of the marble room and has been cursed to guard the treasure which he cannot possess.
With cover artwork designed by CE favorite graphic artist DATA_BYTE, who recently made our Top Visual Artists shortlist, the track is a must-listen for any heavy bass aficionado. Listen now and be sure to catch Space Wizard opening for Subtronics on the road beginning April 16.
