SubDocta brings refreshingly new experimental energy to Wakaan on two-part ‘Crystals & Kombucha’ EP
Preston Charles is known for throwing down his own brand of dubstep, trap, and hybrid styles too odd for the typical nightclub scene. Widely heralded under his stage name, SubDocta, the Reno-based DJ/producer’s eclectic taste and unique production skills have landed him performances at festivals and shows throughout the West and beyond— including Lost Lands, Wakaan Festival, and Bass Canyon in year’s past, along with Big Dub and Wobble Rocks on the books for 2021. In the meantime, SubDocta has been busy in the studio, contributing to Ganja White Night’s 420 album, Dark Wobble, and Boogie T’s Joint Force EP.
Now SubDocta heads to the release wire on Wakaan and he’s concocted a sonic elixir with his hypnotic two-track EP, Crystals & Kombucha. Featuring Los Angeles-based rapper Reverie in Part 1, the duo brews a near four-minute excursion through subterranean waves, while SubDocta takes his production solo in Part 2. Concocting a hypnotic brew from deep within his his diverse cauldron of bass, SubDocta stirs in some refreshing left-field into this wonky new recipe that takes listeners by surprise. Here is an energy completely unheard of throughout Charles’ discography to date, yet completely suited to the weird and wonderful world of Wakaan… and it’s absolutely gratifying.
SubDocta is known for producing his own brand of dubstep and hybrid music that he has dubbed “West Coast Wobble,” paying tribute to his upbringing on the west coast of the US. With the unleashing of Crystals & Kombucha, he can now add “West Coast Wonky Wubs” to his diversifying sonic portflio. Stream the two-tracker below via Wakaan Records.
