Portland’s venerated bass music producer, EPROM, has been leading the underground movement for years with his dark, experimental sounds. Just off a landmark performance at the inaugural Charlesthefirst & Friends in Wyoming, and his recently announced support at DEADROCKS VII, the world hasn’t received much in the way of new EPROM music beyond his recent Emotion Generator sample pack. That all changes now EPROM comes to the fore with “Dangerous Sound,” out on Alix Perez‘s budding imprint, 1985 Music.
A fitting home for EPROM’s return, considering the two producers widely-lauded work as SHADES, “Dangerous Sound” submerses listeners in EPROM’s classic experiment glitch, his next-level production skills, and his otherworldly sound design. Beginning with a classic golden-era dubstep rasta sample, EPROM inundates his listeners with punching synths, dark textures, an unassuming “BOMBOCLAAT” sample, and brain-melting measures.
Landing as EPROM’s first official release of 2021, “Dangerous Sound” also kicks off 1985 Music’s next Various Artists release, named Atlas. The first round of the label’s VA series, Edition, featured three parts. Following a similar pattern, the newest compilation LP features both established artists and newcomers to the scene, as well as label staples and label newcomers.
“Atlas features Deft, Visages, Drone, Nymfo, Monty, Alix Perez, Echo Brown, Foreign Concept, Headland, Safire, DRS, Nymfo, and of course, Eprom. Atlas is a journey through numerous styles and tempos, showcasing a group of the most talented artists in bass music today.”– 1985 Music
Atlas/ 1 will be released through digital retailers on July 9, and also as a three-piece vinyl set, which will be available for shipping in September. Fans can pre-save the project here.
