ill.Gates curates blistering new bass compilation for Obskure Sound, ‘Obskurities Vol. 2’
San Francisco-based producer and Producer Dojo master ill.Gates has been tapped to curate the appropriately-named Obskure Sound‘s second compilation album, Obskurities Vol. 2. Featuring a variety of the label’s eclectic and talented roster, the collection explores delightfully out-there and bass-heavy sounds from the likes of Tripzy Leary, beardthug, Evalution, SEDA, and more.
Kicking off the album with the Galactic Groove-assisted reggaeton beat from ill.Gates himself, some other highlights of the record include Tripzy Leary’s high-hat heavy “Alien Exhibition,” beardthug’s almost cloud rap-esque “I Just,” newcomer ALBY and Hello Ego’s ethereal “Away We Go,” and Evalution’s adptly-titled “Blow Up Your Speakers,” among others.
ill.Gates recently donned an official remix of EyeOnEyez and 42 dugg’s “Look What I Got,” along with West Coast space bass connoisseur EPROM and CE favorite AHEE. The established West Coast bass producer’s collaboration with the New York-based tastemakers of Obskure Sound is a welcome one, and he certainly did not disappoint in this eclectic showcase of underground talent in the space bass scene.
