Introducing DISSØLV: Rising Santa Cruz trio brings their West Coast bass hypnosis into full focus on ‘TRIPLICITY’ EP

Here at Conscious Electronic, we love all things bass — breakbeat, downtempo, left-field, experimental, dubstep in all its forms, you name it. As the underground bass movement has begun its full ascendancy in the US, we’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of up-and-coming bass artists the country over. As such, CE’Rising Bass Spotlight seeks to shine a light onto the rising producers who’re honing their craft, galvanizing their movements, and attuning eyes, ears, heads, and bodies into all things low end.

DISSØLV has been on CE‘s radar since their “This Sound” remix on David Starfire’s Future Self EP, then again in 2020 on Desert Dwellers’ Breath Reimagined Vol. 1, and once more this year with their inclusion in LoFreq’s Cypher Vol. 2 artist compilation. So it’s only befitting— and perhaps a bit overdue— that the Santa Cruz-based trio is up for CE‘s next Rising Bass Spotlight artist.

From deep dubstep with ethno-rhythms to high energy tribal trap, DISSØLV’s sound rides through waves of mesmeric melodies. Composed of multi-instrumentalists and brothers, Valentin Santana and Andre Reinero, and joined with tribal fusion dancer, Jasmine Semjase, this powerful trinity gives off a @DISSOLV vibe in look, but they’re something all their own in terms of their heavy-hitting, hypnotic sound escapades. The trio’s live experience is the truest sight to behold as they bring together Santana’s electric violin, Reinero’s live wind, Semjase’s tribal fusion dance theatrics, and cutting-edge visual technologies into one scientific brain entrainment experiment.

DISSØLV has performed alongside some of their most influential artists including Shpongle, Desert Dwellers, David Starfire, Soohan, and Android Jones. Their travels have taken them from the Bay Area to central America to many of the world’s most renowned transformative festivals, including Lightning in a Bottle, Lucidity Festival, Symbiosis Gathering, and Burning Man (where they performed at Opulent Temple and Camp Questionmark). Releasing on everywhere from Gravitas Recordings to Kalya Scintilla’s Merkaba Music,

From the copious vibrant peaks, deep breakdowns, and melodious sound healings on DISSØLV’s FLUIDIFY EP, to their entrancing electronic synths and acoustic instrumentation riding over a hypnotic bed of sub frequencies on Kintala, the three-pronged act have worked to offer an exuberant, genre-transcendent experience to DISSØLV the boundaries of traditional heavy bass and conscious music. Throughout it all, they’ve positioned themselves as quite an eclectic addition to the global bass music scene with their primal pulses, heavy bass harmonizing, and majestic melodies.

Now the trio is primed for their first all-original, solo offering in the form of their latest four-track EP, dubbed TRIPLICITY. Out now via Headbang Society, the aptly-titled project sees singer/songwriter Reinero’s vibrant samples and engulfing melodies into juxtaposition with Santana’s tribal percussion and classical orchestral touches.

A true standout on the EP is its opening track, “Hyperflex,” which operates as the launching point for the journey ahead. Characterized by its heavy bass fissures, tribal textures, low-end ruptures, and a preponderance of rap verses, the track is over four minutes off bliss turning inward on itself, morphing into turbulence, and coming right back around.

From the romantic violin solos, rumbling basslines, and trippy hip-hop sampling on “The Cruz,” a song named for their West Coast home base, to the gorgeous feminine vocals floating over tribal landscapes on “Raindropz,” to EP’s title track with its anesthetizing melodies, hypnotic harmonies, and soothing sound design, the entire TRIPLICITY EP is an exploration of all the genre-hopping styles and thematic motifs that makes DISSØLV’s music fly.

“As artists we are channels for something much deeper than this reality.. we are gateways to the subtler elements and archetypes of embodiment. Rich with emotion, we transmute those dimensions through our expression.. creating bridges that connect us through this vast and wild human experience.”

– DISSØLV

When all is said and done, the TRIPLICITY EP represents a nomadic journey meant to hypnotize, transcend, and transport its listeners into higher states of being. As a result, DISSØLV is easily a shoe-in for our next Rising Bass Spotlight artist.
