RÜFÜS DU SOL unveil Joshua Tree debuted track as second LP tease, ‘Next To Me’ [WATCH]

RÜFÜS DU SOL now officially makes their return to the release trail. Making a long-awaited comeback with “Alive” back in mid-July, which marked their first new music since 2018’s SOLACE, the Australian trio is now following up the lead single to their fourth album with “Next To Me.” If the song sounds familiar, that is because Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt debuted “Next To Me” six months ago during a cinematic desert sunset performance, Live from Joshua Tree, which avid fans will remember held them off all throughout quarantine in hopes of better days to come.
“We decided we wanted this to be a simple love song, which is rare of us to do, to create something purely sweet without juxtaposing that with the raw, dark emotions on the other side,” Lindqvist said of the record. George further explained the group’s creative focus on “Next To Me” in a press statement:
“There were a lot more yearning lyrics being put down when we were writing the track, but we felt it didn’t need any of the darkness that you hear on a lot of our other records. We wanted to create something more positive and happy, a kind of homage to the feel-good soul of classic house music. I am sure there is part of this that reflects a feeling in our lives and relationships. We wanted to share that with this track.”

For the “Next to Me” music video, Los Angeles-based director Osk used artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to create a new cinematic vision of our world from within the “mind’s eye” of an AI. To create this new kind of film, Osk trained their AI on hundreds of thousands of images of landscapes, architecture and cityscapes. As it learned, the AI developed a neural model of our natural and built environments. Once this process was complete, Osk then “flew” through the multidimensional latent space of the AAI’s neural model, traveling across the seamless, fluid terrain. The resulting film is an epic yet intimate journey across our planet imagined by artificial intelligence.
