A Hundred Drums returns to Deadbeats with thoughtful new single, ‘If I Have To’ ft. Saule

As the force behind A Hundred Drums, Gabrielle Watson has been cultivating a sound that encapsulates experimental hip-hop, psychedelic bass, and indigenous hand drums. After a decade of crafting her sonic signature in cutting-edge spaces, the LA-based bass maven is emerging onto the main stage to bring the sounds of the underground to the masses. That’s why CE named Watson among our Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2022, and she is certainly giving bass music fans every reason to listen up.

Following her Deadbeats debut with the EP, Enough Is Enough, Denver-based producer and hand percussionist A Hundred Drums is back with the new single, “If I Have To,” featuring Montreal-based lyricist Saule. Combining the bedroom pop vocals from Saule with A Hundred Drum’s signature haunting, eerie and deep bass style production as well as her unique use of hand drums throughout the track.

Supported with a lyric video, a music video, and a powerful producer-vocalist pairing, the record’s thoughtful creativity oozes from its musical notes. On working with Saule, Watson says,

“His vocal style is so different from anything I had ever made before. But I trusted the process and really wanted ti explore more with experimentation with my production. Every step of the way it felt like we were leveling each other up. His lyrics and delivery perfectly fit the music I had written, matched the mood I was trying to evoke, and elevated it to this place I never anticipated. The result is a song that feels underground, but plays like an arena anthem.”
