After delivering his Cataclysmic EP on Wakaan last year, SubDocta (real name Preston Charles) is now venturing into full-length territory on Liquid Stranger‘s flagship label for all-things weird and wonderful. The debonair dubstep beatmaker has been teasing the forthcoming studio album over the past couple of months with a diverse sampling of sounds— the hip-hop influenced “Iced Up” and DnB-tinged “Scepter,” respectively.
Now Charles continues to showcase his artistic evolution with his LP’s third and final teased offering, “Let Down.” Venturing into more subdued textures and hypnotic tones, while still delivering his usual high dosage of bass, the single enlists Reno native Grace Hayes for some raw emotional vocal touches on love letdowns. SubDocta takes the drop into his own hands with cutting trappy vibes for a love-sick fix-up with a dose of reality.
“I had wanted to work with Reno local Grace Hayes for a long time, so when I had this sort of trappy lazer bass beat sketched out I thought she would be a perfect fit and she absolutely was. Both somewhat out of our comfort zones, I think we really captured a beautiful vibe here. Her voice and lyrics are so amazing. It’s a song about being an outcast and I think it will resonate with a lot of people. I really do love this song and I hope you enjoy it too.”– SubDocta
“Let Down” is the third single off SubDocta’s upcoming LP, slated for release this year. The upcoming Wakaan album will coincide with his Strictly Business tour. View tour dates below.
