Dirt Monkey and Sully unleash colossal bass monstrosity on Wakaan, ‘King Kong’
Dirt Monkey and Sully have teamed up to unleash their massive single, “King Kong,” and what better place to uncage such a highly-anticipated collaboration than Wakaan. As the place for all things weird and wonderful, “King Kong” more than lives up to the name.
The combination of Dirt Monkey’s wonky signature style with Sully’s thunderous bass makes for the perfect musical concoction of forward-thinking bass, unbridled experimentation, and a sheer level of playfulness that is unmatched on the label. The track actually came together when they two met on the road for the ASCENSION tour, in support of the Wakaan label boss, Liquid Stranger.
“Sully and I wrote this lil number on Liquid Stranger’s tour in early 2020 right before the pandemic hit… we tried to make it as anthemic as possible, and it’s gotten a great crowd response every single time I’ve played it, so I’m very excited for it to be out!”– Dirt Monkey
After speaking to Dirt Monkey’s cutting-edge sound design, Sully also elaborated on how quickly the track came together: “I remember passing the laptop and headphones back and forth every half hour until it was knocked out one afternoon before we played a show in Baton Rouge. The next day, we wrapped up the song in Houston and got to play out the full product at the Ayva Center for one of my last stops of the tour.”
Taking wobbles to their maximum, “King Kong” is sure to shake things up and claim its rightful home in the world of bass music.
