It’s been a few years since Shlump was last seen on Wakaan Records and, at least as far as Wakaan fans are concerned, it’s two years too long. Following up on some of his most notable label contributions, including his UNIVERSAL WUB EP with LSDREAM and “Creature” with label boss Liquid Stranger the year prior, now the alien bass pioneer (real name Michael Petzel) touches down into familiar territory with Drift Away.

Clocking in at four weird and wonderful tunes, Drift Away sees Shlump creating a vibrant galaxy of bass-filled sonics. From the forward-thinking nuance that Shlump imbues into the EP’s leading single to the massive waves of low-end riding underneath “Reset” and “Cuckoo” with Space Wizard, the collection of tunes promises to take listeners on a psychedelic spaceship ride through Shlump’s universe.

Speaking to the EP in a press release, Shlump says the tracks really came together on their own around the theme of “drifting away.”

“We all have ideas of what we are doing with our lives and that create purpose and meaning, but sometimes I feel like it is equally important to not try so hard and to let things happen. From one part of life to the next, we drift away – not running and at the same time not staying still.”

Infusing elements of classic dubstep with west coast flavor with otherworldly sound design, Shlump has pioneered his unique “Alien Bass” sound. His live sets take audiences on a high-energy space ship ride through devastating supernovas of bass, voyaging into deeper realms filled with the cosmic twinkle of sonic stardust.
