Just as we predicted at the top of the year, A Hundred Drums has been on an absolute tear with her career. Coming off her latest release with Saule, “If I Have To,” along with dual appearances at Ultra and Buku in the same weekend, now Gabrielle Watson now doles out a cerebral collaboration with DJ Afterthought that is simply spellbinding.
Titled “Dream State,” the aptly-named number clocks in at just under three minutes for a short, straight-to-the-heart, stop-your-your-tracks number that feels much longer. In other words, A Hundred Drums has become a master of stopping time in her newest musical output.
After a beautiful dream-like sequence to lead in the track, the production duo introduces some glitchy computerized synths and then slowly a calming bass line. The decidedly downtempo number then takes a turn for the experimental as A Hundred Drums and DJ Afterthought both pursue a highly stylized journey into sonic bliss.
“We really went out the box with this one and I’m so excited for everyone to hear a different side to what we normally do!”

Stayed tuned for many more great things to come from Watson’s A Hundred Drums project at Electric Forest, Bonnaroo, and REZZ‘s Spiral album tour, which is currently making its rounds across the country. Stream “Dream State” below.
