Steve Aoki debuts ‘Neon Future’ comic book at New York Comic Con
REZZ isn’t the only dance music producer venturing into the canonical world of comic books. At the 2018 New York Comic Con (NYCC), two-time Grammy-nominated producer and DJ Steve Aoki debuted his new sci-fi comic book series, NEON FUTURE.
On day two of NYCC, Aoki joined in on a panel of other music artists who each spoke about their latest creative endeavors to merge comics with music. As avid collector of comic books since childhood, the move to create another world around his music seemed like a natural step.
“My obsession with mixing science and tech all started when I was a kid reading comic books,” Aoki said in a statement. “It took me on a ride to see how far the imagination can go, seeing ideas crossing the threshold from science fiction to fact.”

Aoki worked with Impact Theory founder Tom Bilyeu and Eisner Award winning writer Jim Kruger (of DC Comics) to churn out an 18-issue series which draws themes from his next full-length album installment, Neon Future III, which is slated for a November release. The comic book component sends readers to a dystopian future where advanced technology is illegal, sparking a new-age war between humans augmented by tech and organic beings.
“That’s the foundation of Neon Future, where we’re headed as we evolve, our downfalls, our victories and breakthroughs to find a way to survive and thrive through it all,” Aoki continued.
NEON FUTURE is available to pre-order now, in which buyers can choose one of five cover variants. Free digital copies will also be made available exclusively for all who sign up for the newsletter.
