When he was starting out as Illenium in 2014, Nick Miller was known around Denver as a promising newcomer under the a managerial wing of Global Dance Productions’ head honcho. He began opening for acts like Above & Beyond and Kaskade, eventually landing on the Decadence and Global Dance Festival line-ups, and would eventually go on to sell out a number of his own shows all over the city. In no time, he’d become a local dance music hero.
His sound gleaned toward melodic dubstep in the days before future bass was a loaded term. It retained traces of Seven Lions and leaned heavily on Adventure Club. Nowadays, it is Illenium whose set the gold standard for melodic bass. Nowhere does that show more than in his newest episode of Phoenix Radio.
Episode 022 stretches all the way back to his early work with Crywolf, “Strike,” to his newer remix of Halsey’s “Without You,” to mixing in tracks from DROELOE, REHAB, Seven Lions, and more. That’s right, when Miller isn’t busy selling out venues like Red Rocks and New York’s Terminal 5, or filming his Ignite web series all over the world, he makes time for a podcast mix. Illenium also says he’s got new music coming this month!
