Cashmere Cat presents ‘EMOTIONS,’ the inspired first single from his incoming sophomore LP [WATCH]

Since the release of his debut 9 LP two years ago, Cashmere Cat has taken a back seat on releasing his own material in favor of putting out singles for The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, MØ, and SOPHIE, to name a few of his high-profile pop collaborators. The format seemed preferable for the 31-year-old Norweigan born record producer, who is usually shy and reserved, preferring the studio to the spotlight.

So when Cashmere Cat announced his impending sophomore album would be titled Catgirl, after the imaginative personae that he created to curb his stage anxiety, it struck a chord with fans and critics. The highly-artistic now releases the first single from his forthcoming body of work with “EMOTIONS.” Stepping away from melancholic R&B vibe of his debut studio album, with its long list of star-studded features, “EMOTIONS” draws up nostalgic tones and vocal chops that harken to the bubblier future bass aesthetic that his fans fell in love with years ago.

Stirring up a bright, light-hearted, and whimsical feelings for his audience, the song’s imprint matches the official music video quite nicely. The video is set in a fog-filled CGI forest as Catgirl is captured dancing care-free around beautiful panoramic landscapes. The cinematic camera angles then zoom out to reveal her VR personae projected on a screen, with her IRL personae standing hugging Cashmere Cat alone in a dimly lit room. The video accompaniment provides the perfect commentary on the direction Cashmere Cat is headed on his new artistic concept album.
