Since first arriving onto the scene in 2011, KOAN Sound has been pushing the boundaries of their IDM-leaning sound. The Bristol-based production duo have been blending drum n bass, glitch-hop, dubstep, and neuro-funk into one truly original sonic stamp since their first OWSLA release, Funk Blaster.

After releasing a phenomenal first full-length effort in Polychrome, KOAN Sound has wasted no time in the studio since late last year. The fruits of their labor of love now comes to full fruition on a brand new five-track EP effort, dubbed Intervals Above. They began teasing the project only last month with “Strident,” a track that fuses jamtronica progressions with heavy glitch-hop drops, before leading into “Boundless” and “Radiant,” two previously released singles that also helped to tease the EP’s release.

With newly ripened atmospheric bass sounds that have the ability shift from soothing, lush textures to heavily glitched out beats at the drop of a hat, Intervals Above is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s carefully-charted and yet free form, ambitiously intentional and yet effortless, and simultaneously wild and calm. The entire EP is expertly paced from beginning to end, strapping in its listeners from the start, capturing by the ear drums, before taking them on a rollercoaster journey of experimental tones and tempos that only KOAN Sound is known to deliver.

The duo are kicking off the US leg of their In Parallel tour alongside Haywyre on September 12. Find tickets to their North American stops here.
