RL GRIME fashions ferociously trap-laden annual mix, Halloween VIII

There is nothing in October that dance music enthusiasts look forward to more than RL GRIME’s annual Halloween Mix. Delivered every Hallow’s eve since 2012, the trap tastemaker and Sable Valley label head has built somewhat of a cult following around his highly sought-after spooky treat. Almost like clockwork (pun intended), RL GRIME has fashioned a ferocious eighth installment in his coveted mixtape series. While October bestows upon the scene plenty of bone-chilling Halloween mixtapes, it’s safe to say that RL is the reason for the season. If nothing else, he certainly owns the night.

Clocking in at an hour, Halloween VII stands as a menacing barrage of bass features, with selects from the likes of MineSweepa, WHIPPED CREAM & LICK, TroyBoi, and a special unreleased collaborative number with Whethan. Not to mention, RL GRIME riddles the mix with a lethal dose of unreleased IDs.

One thing RL GRIME’s Halloween mixes are known for is their celebrity cameo-like introductions. In the past, he’s invited Shaq, RL Stein, Pharrell Williams, and Comedian Hannibal Buress on to monologue the mix’s openings, which gives them their unique cinematic flavor. Halloween VIII passes the torch to a figure matched in repute by Halloween: Mayor of Flavortown, Guy Fieri. More celebrity guest features include voice actor Jake Foushee, and, as to be expected, RL Stein.

The thing that rings universally true about RL GRIME’s annual Halloween mixes is this: the NOVA mastermind will leave you with goosebumps. Stream the mixtape below and view the full playlist on 10001Tracklists.com.
