Ivy Lab returns with second Two Fingers collaboration, ‘Hotline’
Legendary duo Ivy Lab has done it again. Known for their unorthodox take on dark, bass-infused hip hop beats, they have been releasing a ton of experimental but head-nodding music since their inception. Founding members Sabre and Stray had their beginnings in the celebrated London music scene many years ago, and they’ve eventually found their iconic sound that continues to evolve to this day.
Among the first to bring the halftime/future beats movement to the public eye, Ivy Lab are equal parts innovators and tastemakers. Offering a variety of remixes and collaborations on their label 20/20 LDN, they found a willing partner in Amon Tobin‘s alias Two Fingers. A granular-synthesizing, gritty beat-making menace, Two Fingers is the unleashed side of Amon Tobin’s music.
The results of an Ivy Lab/Two Fingers collab already had one installment, “Orange,” which came out this past summer, and “Hotline” continues on that same wavelength. Swelling, menacing, and grimy, the tune evokes a dark scene of 3 AM London that is impossible not to bounce along to.
