Midweek Mantra Mix 036: Jan Blomqvist brings sunrise to Burning Man

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’s Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision: to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

Live performances of electronic music have become almost the norm these days. Everyone from ODESZA to Boogie T is bringing a band with them, and doing more than just mixing when it comes to playing shows for their fans. German-born Jan Blomqvist is considered one of the more notable when it comes to live setups, bringing his band BLOMQVIST with him for entirely organic electronic concerts. The truly epic sunrise set he performed at Burning Man 2019 is this week’s Midweek Mantra.

Consisting mostly of sounds put together on the spot, Jan performed 72 minutes of uplifting house and techno grooves for an ecstatic crowd watching the sunrise on Thursday of the festival. Performing from the legendary Mayan Warrior art car, the team came together with the Robot Heart camp to host the producer for what turned out to be a beautiful show. All of the vocals are sung by Jan himself during the performance, while he is also producing and providing the instrumental portion of the music.

This gig was by far the most emotional gig I have ever played. All I can say is thank you, I am even more happy now to be born on this weird planet which can be really beautiful sometimes, when you give it chance to be free. Thank you you for dancing with me and giving me so much Love. So here is my try to give something back.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2011, Blomqvist has become known for his special brand of music. Vibrant, exciting and with a distinctly alive feel, no two performances of his are ever alike. He was recently unveiled at the top of Envision Festival’s second phase of their lineup, and with good reason: his music and vibration bring exactly the kind of energy that conscious gatherings around the world are seeking to curate.
