Lane 8 play's Splash House in Palm Springs

Lane 8 releases quarterly seasonal mixtape to celebrate the vibrant sounds of spring

Like clockwork, the seasons change and Lane 8 releases another iconic seasonal mixtape celebrating a brand new weather cycle. The Bay Area progressive juggernaut is only recently coming off a glorious third studio full-length with Brightest Lights. However, no album undertaking, no matter how large a feat, could ever stop the ultra-focused artist from giving fans what they’ve come to crave every quarter since 2013.

The mixtapes celebrate the natural cycle of the seasons—from snowfall to sunshine, and everything in between—as well as their meanings in our own lives. Lane 8’s Spring 2020 Mixtape touches on themes of rebirth and regeneration. Spring is the perfect metaphoric reminder that no matter how difficult life may feel, there is a new season of rebirth right around the corner.

To capture this ethos, Lane 8 surveys the spectrum of chill, ambient, and house, enlisting help from Cubicolor, OCULA, Yotto, Sultan + Shepard, and Cristoph‘s original works, along with remixes from Chris Lake, Tale of Us, and many more. Of course, Lane 8 uses the mix, which spans nearly three hours, to highlight his own original music as well as artists from his imprint, This Never Happened.

Overtime, Lane 8’s mixtapes have become a bit of a taste making enterprise. The San Fransisco resident makes sure to feature labels which house the brightest and boldest from across the ethereal realm of dance music, including Solomun’s DIYnamic, Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep, Chris Lake’s Black Book, RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue, Nothing Else Matters from BBC Radio 1 host Danny Howard, and so many more.
