TRUTH turns to Wakaan to traverse alien universes on four-track ‘Druids’ EP
When TRUTH isn’t busy leading one of the underground bass scene’s most hyped labels in Deep Dark & Dangerous, the Australian production has been leading some of the quarantine streams most consistently on-point live Twitch streams. In the meantime, TRUTH has turned to release on other prominent labels in the attempt to get their bass engineering out to the masses. That’s why TRUTH has released their newest four-track EP, Druids, on Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan.
Extremely adept and incredibly intelligent, Druids truly showcases TRUTH’s stark, tumultuous style. From the EP’s title track all the way until the closing tune, “Seeing Things,” which traverses the sonic realms of alien universes. To be honest, it’s rather enigmatic how TRUTH comes to find their unique sonics — almost holy, in fact. Yet, there’s plenty of melodic surprises along the way. Such is the case with “Hold Ya Tongue,” which features beautiful melodies and soulful vocal samples before delving into its paralyzing drops. Still, the tracks hold true to time signature while exploring broken beat structures; thus, showcasing the pair’s masterful production IQ.
The EP’s name comes ancient Celtic religion. A druid was a member of the high-ranking class in ancient Celtic cultures. Perhaps best remembered as religious leaders, they were also legal authorities, adjudicators, lorekeepers, medical professionals, and political advisors. Such is the case with bass music producers, who’ve long touted themselves as priest-like wizards. Suffice it to say, TRUTH are a couple of dubstep laureates who very much fit into this category.
