Adventure Club are certifiable melodic tastemakers on ‘Superheroes Anonymous 11: Never Surrender’ mix

As certifiable melodic tastemakers, whatever Adventure Club (AC) chooses to play out always checks out. Lately, the Candian dubstep duo has had their finger on the pulse of what’s up next and who’s coming up in the arena of melodic bass. With stunning live stream appearances on Dream World and Digital Mirage, along with a celebrated reunion with past collaborator Yuna, Leighton James and Christian Srigley have officially returned for the spoils. Over a year after dropping off their Superheroes Anonymous 10: Death or Glory mix, the duo have now released the eleventh installment of their long-running mix series, which dates back seven years.

AC’s new Superheroes Anonymous 11: Surrender or Die mix spans over an hour-and-a-half of music that leaves no genre unturned—from the corners of alt-rock with Tame Impala and 30 Seconds To Mars, to the crevasses of K-Pop with BTS and Blackpink, to Latin with Bad Bunny, and plenty of unbridled pop with Billie Eilish, Alicia Keys, Dua Lipa, and the Jonas Brothers—all seamlessly mixed together and mashed up to perfection. They even work in Drake, Sigur Ros, Porter Robinson, and Whitney Houston, although one need to listen closely because half of them don’t even show up on the tracklist.

Kicking things off with a hearty unreleased ID with Codeko, Adventure Club embarks on a melodic journey with the first third of the mix. After taking listeners through emotional peaks and valleys, the duo takes an all-out assaultive dubstep turn around the mid-way mark that takes no prisoners and spares no lives. The latter third of the Superheroes 11 then brings listeners back into the feel-good melodic spaces for a completely rich story arch— through the rise, the conflict to purge all the anger, and the fall into complete catharsis.

Along the way, Adventure Club previews a few more IDs, including an unreleased collaboration with Sullivan King and Atreyu, another with Lucii, and a gorgeous Vanic ID to further wet the whistle. Not to mention, Adventure Club covers a whopping 77 tracks in the 1.5 hour time span, speaking to their inane ability to mix layer upon layers of nuanced twists and turns. Not surprising—rather completely expected—coming from a few veterans like Leighton and Christian.

As if there wasn’t enough hype circulating around the melodic dubstep pioneers, AC has recently added fuel to the fire with the announcement of their sophomore album. Add to that a triumphant mixtape and the Montreal producers are just continuing to fan the flame.
