MUST LISTEN: Cassian returns to Rose Avenue for highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Laps’
Grammy-nominated Australian artist Cassian is not one to rush anything. Since becoming the first artist to release on RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s Rose Avenue in 2018, he’s played the game of slow-and-steady wins the race. But he’s been producing, mixing, and sound engineering for much longer than that. Cassian was DJing and making electronic music well before he was able to hit the clubs. He was inspired by the rich alternative electro scene that exploded in his hometown in the 2000s—particularly Modular Recordings, which launched powerhouse Aussie acts like Tame Impala, Cut Copy, and more.
Now five years in the making, Cassian has finally has finally pulled back the curtain on his debut studio album, Laps. Out now on Rose Avenue, Cassian shares the meaning behind the album title: “Laps is about a journey that starts and ends in the same place. A journey that gets repeated over and over again.” Joining the three already-released tracks on the album, “Lafayette,” “Same Things,” and “Magical,” fans now get six more additional gems where Cassian’s true production talents are on full display.
From the opening track, “Banza,” a slow burner with desert house appeal, to the mellow Thandi Pheonix-assisted 4×4 cut, “Together,” to the nearly 8-minute-long title track closing out the album, Cassian’s dedication to his craft is on full display throughout the 9-track journey. What a journey it is, too, which speaks to the Aussie producer’s ability to craft a cohesive listening experience from beginning to end.
