Since January, Gorillaz have been rolling out their newest Song Machine project. First there was “Momentary Bliss” with slowthai and Slaves, then “Désolé” with Fatoumata Diawara, then “Aries” with Peter Hook and Georgia, and “Friday 13th” with Octavian. Suffice it to say, the project has already boasted a pretty impressive array of collaborators thus far.
Landing as the British virtual band’s fifth record, Gorillaz debut their biggest track from the project so far, a joint with none other than TDE cornerstone ScHoolboy Q. The single called “PAC-MAN” and it arrives just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the game by the same name.
Albarn produced the song in London prior to the COVID-19 pandemic alongside longtime collaborators Remi Kabaka, Jr. and Prince Paul. Featuring Gorillaz’s signature elements alongside ScHoolboy Q’s brilliant rap verses, “PAC-MAN” hits the mark on every level. Watch and listen for yourself.
