Midweek Mantra Mix 055: illanthropy. gets listeners ready for november with ‘rock the vote’ mix

Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.

“Fusing the visceral and intellectual, I use bass music to articulate my human experience.”

The above quote can be found on underground bass artist illanthropy.‘s Facebook page, and it couldn’t be a more apt description of the producer’s sound. Often referenced for his work with Ravenscoon and Levitation Jones, as well as his smash hit “Elephant Party,” the impassioned artist also known as Stephen Blasy from Asheville, North Carolina has created a discography true to his soul. With a deftly built mix of disgustingly heavy dub tracks and stunningly light moments of spiritual catharsis, Blasy demonstrates his ability to work with a full range of emotions that does indeed capture what it’s like to be a modern day human.

Illanthropy. began creating music over five years ago, when he first released remixes to the masses. Since then, he’s performed multiple times up and down the east coast as well as nationally, and has been involved with events including Sound Haven, the Harmony online festivals, and Digital Gardens. What helps this particular artist is his style: all about unusual contrasts, he frequently mixes deep, experimental subs with synthesizers typically associated with more emotional tracks. It ends up working in unexpected ways, and truly captures and amplifies illanthropy.’s passions.

His recent mixtape *DROP THE VOTE MIX* encapsulates all this perfectly. After opening with an incensed Barack Obama speech about the importance of voting, it launches into an incredible journey that weaves through drum and bass, space bass, dubstep, and even some indie-styled moments. In a time defined by a deeply polarized country, surrounding perhaps one of the most important elections in decades, and as many are feeling anxiety about the future, illanthropy. taps into these intense emotions and provides an escape from them, if only for an hour.

Fans of the underground will love this mix, and it serves as an important reminder to be prepared. If you haven’t registered to vote, you can do so here— and be sure to give illanthropy. a listen as you do it.
