Whethan blurs genres on long-awaited debut album, ‘Fantasy’
When Whethan burst onto the dance music scene three years ago at the ripe age of 16, the Chicago wunderkind released on Future Classic and the rest is history. After years of honing his skills, experimenting with eclectic tastes, and rising through the ranks of dance music’s elite in the process, Ethan Snoreck has recently turned 21 and is finally ready to release his debut album, Fantasy. The LP features the many singles Whethan has released so far this year as well as seven brand new productions.
Amidst cameos from STRFKR, Grouplove, The Knocks, Oliver Tree, and his most recently-released track, “Outta Here,” with RL Grime, the long-awaited 15-track album proves well worth the wait. “There was an underlying theme of alternative meets psychedelic dance music,” Whethan says of Fantasy in a statement, “and I wanted to be able to blast every song at my shows or have it feel like you’re at a show when listening at home or in the car.” Whethan continues,
Fantasy is getting on a spaceship and teleporting anywhere your dreams can imagine. I grew a lot while working on the album over the last 3 years and you can hear it through the different styles and feelings on each track.”

From the Chrome Sparks-assisted intro track to “Clouds” with The Wombats and “Hurting on Purpose, featuring K.Flay, the 41-minute LP is filled with star-powered collaborations. “I wanted to make a project that was full of energy and artists that I’m inspired by and everyone involved on this album has brought my inspiration and the album as a whole to another level,” Whethan said.
Nearly three years in the making, Whethan’s debut studio album is vibrant, playful, energetic, and filled with imagination. Listen in full now.
