BroMosapien transmits the moody energy of Luminyst and Ravenscoon’s ‘Darkness’ on remix duties

It doesn’t feel like too long ago that Luminyst (formerly SLAVE) was releasing his debut studio album, Transformation, much to the underground fanfare. As a newer addition to the Mean Mug family, the label-signee (aka David Timko) managed to concoct a 10-track journey that played out with every bit of intention as one might expect from a three-act screenplay. Carefully constructed around plot twists and amorphous turns, Timko graciously took listeners into his world where they would try on themes of metamorphosis, consciousness, philosophy, and low-frequency emotions. This was all in early January and now, just shy of two months since its release, SLAVE is already teasing the LP’s remix package, due out on DSPs in full by March 15.

Armed with a bevy of talented rising producers, this gaggle of bass purveyors are also trying on SLAVE’s originals for size. Up to bat in the first round of remixers is the ever-talented BroMosapien, aka Andy Underwood, who steps up to the plate with SLAVE and Ravenscoon‘s moody collaboration, “Darkness.” We’ve had an eye on this Charlotte-based producer since his Fallen Kingdom EP and, per usual, BroMosapien has knocked this remix out of the park.

Underwood’s take stays true to the original with its complex emotional range— on the one hand, doom-and-gloom, while at the same time, uplifting and ethereal. BroMosapien completely strips the twinkling arps on his mates’ original song; instead favoring gritty textures that are somehow even darker than “Darkness.” The remix is bound to be a stand-out on the LP and BroMosapien is clearly grateful to be in the good company of other talented up-and-comers on the project. Underwood took to his socials upon release to express his gratitude:

“Beyond grateful to be on this remix album w/ sooo many other amazing artists! Be sure to check out the whole album!”

Also out on the forthcoming remix package is Shatter’s rendition of “Don’t Look Away,” Peanut Butter Williams’ rework of “Gliding,” and Sunrizen’s redo of “Surrender.” The next round of four tracks to come from the Transformation Remixes are set to land March 8, with the full package out the following week on March 15.
