Closing out what is widely being held a successful first-back festival, Illenium surprised Ubbi Dubbi this weekend by dropping a seismic bomb of an unreleased track on his crowd. The Denver-based melodic bass star brought out Heaven Sent bosses SLANDER to share the stage, during which time the three debuted their brand new collaboration, “Lay It Down.”
As if the track weren’t already an EDM royalty gem, the featured vocalists on “Lay It Down” are none other than Yasmine and Jahan Yousef of Krewella. The track has all the makings of Illenium’s signature, gut-wrenching future bass, seamlessly mixed with SLANDER’s signature heavenly, swirling synths. Taken together, they make for an instant EDM anthem. Given how the track features the boss lyrics of the Krewella sisters, “Lay It Down” will surely get plays on every mainstage set across the globe throughout 2021 and beyond.
While the collaboration was a complete shock to the crowd, what is less surprising is the group of collaborators. Given the similarity of their styles, an Illenium and SLANDER collaboration was only a matter of time. Given the fact that Krewella’s former manager is now Illenium’s current one, someone who is largely responsible for catapulting them all to EDM fame, it makes perfect sense that the sisterly duo was courted for vocals on the track.
SLANDER previously teased the track earlier this month over Twitter, and it’s safe to say that the commercial EDM world can hardly wait for the full collaboration to release— probably some time in summer with the release of Illenium’s fourth studio LP.
