The Untz Festival’s 2021 line-up makes it the year’s most explosive underground bass event
What began over ten years ago as an online portal for all things jam and bass music has now grown into one of the United States’ most impressively curated festivals. After re-honing its mission under the leadership of partners Avi Gallant and Matt Thomas, The Untz Festival now finds itself annually hosting an event that is predicated on bolstering the rising bass artists of the “undercard.”
But be careful with that wording because, according to the organizers, “this has led to the rabid fandom of the festival’s perceived ‘undercard’ which is a complete misconception about the festival’s mission altogether.”
“The entire goal of the event is to demonstrate that nascent acts are just as valued as the ‘headliners’ and in fact most of the festival’s iconic moments have come from ‘smaller artists.”
After announcing a 2021 return to Browns Valley, June 4 through 6, at 20 percent capacity, now The Untz has released their newest line-up. They’ve retained most of the artists who topped their 2020 gathering, which was set to celebrate their fifth birthday but was ultimately canceled over the pandemic.
Picking up right where they left off, The Untz will host CharlestheFirst in the top headlining spot, with additional top-tier performances from Cheethos, Chee, Digital Ethos, Charlesthefirst’s side project, Hawk., and sunrise sets from Supertask (x2), Ternion Sound and kLL sMTH’s downtempo-focused cHLL sMTH. The weekend will also see two amazing back-to-back sets: Yheti b2b Of The Trees and Mr. Bill b2b kLL sMTH (as kLL bILL).
In addition, TRUTH, Khiva, and Angelic Root will bring a Deep Dark & Dangerous (DD&D) showcase, along with more appearances from Potions, VEIL, Black Carl!, and many more. But the real show begins on the other side of the budding line-up. Spicy Bois artists MeSo, Ion, and Big City are on the docket as well as Wormhole‘s Secret Recipe, FRQ NCY, and Litlbird. Then there is LoFreq Records‘ Tripzy Leary, Jalaya, Ravenscoon, and Barely Great.
Other noteable CE favorites on the line-up include Hullabaloo, Thought Process, Tsimba, Pheel., Deez, and more.
As the unofficial underground event of June, The Untz is sure to deliver the best in bass music, vibes, and West Coast wubs. For tickets, head to the event’s website.
