For anyone on the ground at Sound Haven 2021, the underground bass music event of the year was an absolute hit. So many rising stars filled out the weekend’s roster, it was impossible the return to Jaceland would be a miss. With multiple late night exclusive sets from the likes of Ravenscoon, NotLö, and more on the Mean Mug x Subsiety renegade bus in the campsites, along with countless sunrise surprises like MIZE b2b Smoakland b2b Black Carl! b2b Super Future b2b Tripp St. on the Planetary stage, which was rigged with Hennessy Sound.

Then, of course, there was the spectacle UFO mainstage wrapped in a pristine Funktion-One bubble. Produced by the good folks at Lost Horizons Productions, the stage hosted Mersiv and his weekend-defining “Turn Down” set, A Hundred Drums and her late night set dedicated to Actualize Visuals, and many more acts. One of the weekend’s most memorable occasions belonged to MIZE, however, when he took to his (unofficial) headlining slot with a “very special all DnB” set, which se announced over his socials in the time leading up to the event.

Now its no secret that MIZE has been tipping his hat to drum-and-bass in many of live sets recently, and stirring up the Twitter talk about DnB’s inevitable revival in the US—a movement which he is most certainly spearheading.

Thankfully for those not in attendance at Sound Haven 2021, we took the time to record the full set for your “fomo”-viewing pleasure. Throughout the hour-long set, MIZE delivered his deliciously hip-hop-layered beats, along with plenty of drum-n-bass nods, and then topped it all off with a climactic drop of the popular basshead anthem “Sexy Party.”

View MIZE’s full set below via our YouTube page, but don’t wait because it could get taken down at any time.

About MIZE

Ian Evans often pulls from immediate inspiration for his art, so it’s fitting his melodic dubstep project, MIZE, has become so unique and personable.

In 2012, he began diving into production as ‘ianqt’ (a name pulled from his World of Warcraft account), but in 2017 decided on MIZE, a new moniker to honor his late-grandmother and represent his new focus in Ableton bass production. Inspired by genre-coalescing acts like Tipper and Netsky, the MIZE project is aestheticized by a psychedelic blend of heavy bass music, ambient downtempo, and melodic dubstep with a clear hip hop influence blended in.

His rise has been rooted in successful Soundcloud releases and cultivating an entertained audience via Twitter, but MIZE is beginning to garner attention from throughout the music industry. He’s played before thousands at festivals like WAKAAN Music Festival, Sound Haven, High Caliber, and this year’s Bonnaroo. MIZE’s debut label release was a single with WAKAAN titled “Thought Process” and he has been a label favorite ever since.

Find MIZE at the crux of Electronic music’s ever-evolving scene, leading a wave of producers inspired by the world around them.
