Altered States bosses Zeds Dead unveil energizing 4-track remix pack for ‘Catching Z’s’
The new package from the pair’s newly-launched downtempo label includes new remixes from IMANU x Quiet Bison, Pocket, and A-BO.
Back in March, Zeds Dead dropped a downtempo, chillout mixtape with Catching Z’s. Showcasing the Toronto duo’s softer sides, this more experimentally-driven project was a departure from their signature bass sound at a fitting time when no one could congregate together, on dancefloors or even socially. The project saw Zeds Dead expand their sound into sonic realms they were always interested in exploring, also serving as the first official release from their newly launched experimental-minded label: Altered States.
Now Zeds Dead have released a short and sweet remix package from the mixtape, focusing on flips of two songs: “i think you’re cool” and “lost birds.” Zeds Dead’s acoustic version of “i think you’re cool’ leads the pack and takes the track and producers into a completely new territory as they transform the song into a piano and string orchestra backed ballad.
The other three tracks feature remix work from IMANU x Quiet Bison, Pocket, and A-BO who all bring the original tracks into a more club focused territory with tasteful house grooves, and subtle vocal chops, yet they all retain the late night relaxed vibe that permeated throughout the original project.
The release of the remix package comes on the heels of Zeds Dead’s first shows since March 2020. They played two shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on July 2 and 3, the seventh annual Deadrocks which has become an annual mecca for their fans, followed by subsequent shows in Denver as well as Deadbeats Arizona in mid-July.
They’re gearing up for Deadbeats: The Revival tour, a nationwide headlining tour throughout the fall, kicking off at Electric Zoo Festival in New York City on September 3 and wrapping up in early 2021 with two nights at Echostage in Washington, DC.
