Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero have enlisted Kiiara for a dance/pop crossover hit, ‘Be Somebody’
As two highly-visible dance producers on the crux of the pop music world, Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero have combined their talents together for a radio-ready hit single, “Be Somebody.” While the two dance moguls each head their own respective labels, the Dim Mak and Protocol head honchos have released the tune on Ultra Records.
The pair have enlisted the help of Kiiara, whose worked alongside The Chainsmokers, to lay down her enlivening vocals on the track. “Be Somebody” was built around Kiiara’s smooth vocals, whose lyrics revolve around being fiercely independent and unwaveringly confident. The pop elements abound on the track as well — with powerful claps, four-to-the-floor rhythms, and simplified synthesized chords all building to the song’s two drops. It’s a formula that has worked for the mainstream ear, time and time again.
Kiiara comes to table as one of dance music’s most remixed vocalists — with notable remixers in Jai Wolf, Hippie Sabotage, and Hotel Garuda — so enlisting the Atlantic Records-signee’s vocal talents was a keen move on the part of Aoki and Romero.
