Midweek Mantra Mix 013: PartyWave dives deep into free form bass on ‘All OG Mixtape Vol 2’
Wednesday is humpday, which not only marks the halfway point between the work week and the coveted weekend, but also Conscious Electronic’s Midweek Mantra Mix (M3). We’ve been scouring the web’s most enlightening bass music mixes that align with our vision, to provide “a conscious way to consume dance music.” M3 spotlights both veteran and up-and-coming bass music artists whose music seeks to raise the vibrations of their collective listener base.
Born and raised in California and currently residing in Hawaii, bass producer PartyWave is no stranger to the ocean. He is a dedicated surfer who has been one of the pioneers of the distinctive experimental west coast bass sound for some years now. The creative basis of his music and inspiration are tied to the ocean; much like the way that each breaking wave is different, the sound waves coming out of his subwoofer each have unique flavors. The freeform, exploratory nature of his music and the unapologetic originality of his style are what make his “All OG Mixtape Vol. 2” this week’s MMM.
Containing 51 minutes of music produced by the man himself, the mixtape is a journey through deep bass grooves and head-nodding rhythms. At times meditative, at other times face-scrunchingly dirty, it is an exploration of everything that makes the west coast bass scene special. There are originals, remixes, and collaborations with other artists aplenty, but PartyWave manages to maintain his own unique stamp on each selection. This lends to a smooth listening experience that feels like it ends too soon.
Remixes of artists like SuDs, ill-esha, and Stylust are all in this mix, showing PartyWave’s commitment to staying true to bass music. Authentic vibes make this entire effort feel worthwhile, and it’s not a stretch to say that the intention and enthusiasm can be heard within. Dive in, ride the wave, and look out for more releases from the rising star.
