Subsidia Records celebrates the melodic with 18-track ‘Dawn: Vol. 2’ compilation
After launching with a massive 118-track compilation series, Excision’s Subsidia Records has returned to round out the label’s second compilation installment with today’s release of Dawn: Vol. 2. Whereas the second volume of Dusk celebrated wonky, experimental-leaning bass, and Night: Vol. 2 gleaned heavily dubstep, Dawn‘s second installment turns an eye toward the melodic, feel-good side of bass. The three volumes represent the three sides of Subsidia, as Excision told Forbes upon the label’s launch last September,
“There are so many different kinds of sounds coming out right now from artists of all sizes, ranging from aggressive and energetic to soft and full of emotion. So for me, this label is a way to celebrate the diversity of the genre and to give a platform to artists who are really innovating.”
– Excision
The newest 18-track compilation does just that as Excision highlights largely unknown and lesser-known bass artists to usher in a new trinity of the genre. Standouts on Dawn: Vol. 2 include the label head honcho’s collaboration with Whales and RIELL, ““The Last Time,” which kicks off the album. Then there’s OMAS and Les Gold‘s “Lost In Outer Space,” Cyrus Gold and Elation‘s “Other Side,” Shyloom, Kabes, and Dani King‘s “Royalty,” and so many more tracks. Each contribution beautifully extrapolates the melodic, albeit at times still heavy-leaning, vision of bass music that Excision sees for his world of Subsidia as well as for the direction which the bass music world at large could be moving.
