Aussie electronic icon Flume releases his hotly-anticipated third studio album, ‘Palaces’
After six long years since his sophomore full-length release, Flume has bestowed the world with his third studio album in Palaces, out now on Transgressive Records. The Australian musical icon, born Harley Streten, has been teasing releases from the groundbreaking piece of work for months now— with MAY-A assisted lead single “Say Nothing,” followed by “ESCAPE” with QUIET BISON and KUČKA, then “Sirens” with Caroline Polachek, title track “Palaces” with Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, and “Hollow” with Emma Louise.
Now Palaces is joined by eight more fluorescent numbers that glisten with left-field bliss, tangy melodies, and scorching glitches. From the offputting number, “Only Fans,” featuring the voice talents of Virgen Maria, to gorgeous solo originals from Streten, such as the ambient instrumental ballad “Jasper’s Song,” expansive tune “Love Light,” and the bouncy number “Go,” Flume has proven once again (and to no surprise) that he is a master of his craft.
Another stand out is the LAUREL-assisted track, “I Can’t Tell,” which showcases her angelic vocals as well as Streten’s bold, lush-filled production style so evenly that the balance feels effortless. Taking his signature experimental sound to its pinnacle point of perfection, Flume’s thirteen track Palaces LP is the album that electronic music fans the world over have been waiting for.
The Grammy-winning artist’s second album, Skin, took the awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording back in 2017, followed by his Hi This Is Flume Mixtape earning the Best Album award again in 2020 (despite the fact that it wasn’t technically an album). Still, with another thoughtful and intentional studio masterpiece now under his belt, another Gramophone is likely coming Flume’s way next year for Palaces.
