The Glitch Mob assign release date to ‘Drink The Sea’ deluxe edition, share remix of Nalepa’s ‘Monday’
A full decade has lapsed since The Glitch Mob issued their debut album, Drink The Sea. They were newcomers on the Los Angeles beat scene at the time, although the critically=acclaimed album would hoister them into global dance music stardom. With iconic tunes such as “Fortune Days.” “Starve The Ego, Feed The Soul,” and “Drive It Like You Stole It,” the original album has earned itself folklorish type appeal in not just the minds of West Coast bass heads, but dance music fans around the globe. The LP also marked the launch of their label, Glass Air Records, which helped to pave the way for ooah, edIT, and Boreta to become leaders of their very own sound movement.
Now The Glitch Mob are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their defining piece of artwork with a completely remastered, expanded deluxe reissue, Drink The Sea (10 Year Anniversary Edition). Not only will the newly-refined revisitation contain 2020 remasters of the album’s original ten tracks, but one new instrumental and six storied remixes of tracks that have long been kept in the vault and only used at live shows. To launch the deluxe roll-out, The Glitch Mob have unveiled their highly-coveted remix of Nalepa’s 2009 ambient track, “Monday.”
Originally released as a rework titled “Beyond Monday,” the 2020 version takes the bones of the storied track into the labs, this time backed with a decade’s worth of honed production skill from the trio. As an ode to the trio’s mid-2000s signature heavy glitch sound, which is known categorically as their own, the updated version brings about more nuanced elements, crisper production techniques, and the kind of dynamic range that comes only with years and years of commitment to craft.
After [the album] sat with people for a while, something unexpected happened. People who were dealing with difficult issues started to write and tell us that the music was helping them, that it was the soundtrack to them falling in love, or getting through a breakup. It helped people cope with dark times, in the same way it had helped us. These notes became the lifeblood of our creativity. Not only did it put our own problems in perspective, but the music connected us to something much larger than ourselves. We had the greatest honor of our lives — to be there for someone else.”
Boreta
Both wildly nostalgic and touched-up with a modern flair, “Monday” is creating mass excitement for what is to come on the ten-year anniversary edition of Drink The Sea.
